These three 60 minute classes you will gain knowledge that you can use in yoga classes but many other activities! Yoga is about learning more about you and your body. Take your understanding to a deeper level by learning more about the muscles, jones, bones of your body and how to bring alignment and mindfulness into your postures. Issues of misalignment, aches and pains, and common physical conditions that present as obstacles will be addressed so you can practice yoga safely and more effectively.
Great for the newbie to those who have been practicing for any length of time.
Spread across 3 sessions, we will cover the body in sections – lower, mid, and upper body.
Yoga Anatomy: Hips and Legs
Tuesday June 5th 7:30pm-8:30 Being the foundation of our standing posture and most of our day-to-day functional movement, proper lower body posture can alleviate much of the misalignment – and therefor pain – throughout the entire body. We’ll analyze your standing and sitting posture, giving you refinements for your yoga practice. An overview of muscle groups like the hip flexors, abductors, adductors, etc will give you a better idea of how bring your body into balance. And we’ll cover common conditions like plantar fasciitis, sciatica, knee issues, arthritis, and more.
Yoga Anatomy: Spine and Core
Tuesday June 12 7:30pm-8:30 Being the center of our body, any misalignments or weaknesses here affect our entire body. To help us find a “neutral spine,” we will analyze mountain pose and common conditions like kyphosis, lordosis, scoliosis, herniated disks, and chronic back pain. Learn why the six pack muscles are overrated, and how to actually “engage your core” with poses and movements that specifically target muscles like the multifidus, iliopsoas, transverse abdominus and more.
Yoga Anatomy: Neck and Shoulders
Tuesday June 19th 7:30pm-8:30 Learn what the rotator cuff muscles are in your shoulder, how to prevent wrist pain, carpel tunnel syndrome, tennis elbow, and other aches and pains of the upper body. Specific poses, movements, and alignments will address each muscle for flexibility, strength, and how to possibly incorporate headstand, safely, into your personal practice.
Cost:
attend all 3 sessions for just $60
attend individual sessions for $25 each.
